Implementing Twitter Cards

To start using Twitter Cards with your website, please first review the official Twitter Documentation.

The steps to easily get you started with a Summary Large Image type Card follow:

  1. If you do not yet have a Twitter account for you or your organization, you will need to visit the Twitter website and register an account.

  2. Add the following meta tags to the bottom of the <head> section of any page you wish to share, being sure to customize the content fields to reflect your custom information for each page.

    <!-- Twitter Card Tags -->
    <meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image">
    <meta name="twitter:site" content="@YourTwitterHandle">
    <meta name="twitter:creator" content="@YourTwitterHandle">
    <meta name="twitter:title" content="<?php echo $title ?>">
    <meta name="twitter:description" content="<?php echo $description ?>">
    <meta name="twitter:image" content="<?php echo $websiteUrl . '/' . $image ?>">
  3.  Send a tweet, being sure to reference the url of a page that has the Twitter Card meta tags installed.  Something like the following:

  4. That's it!  You are now using Twitter Cards.
