This page is a step-by-step guide for the process of opening and setting up an external application in LinkedIn as part of the Gigya Setup process.

Note: LinkedIn has limits on their API use. To learn about the limits, please refer to the Throttle Limits page in LinkedIn developer's site. You may request LinkedIn to grant you with higher limits, using this form: http://developer.linkedin.com/<wbr/>themes/linkedin-home/form-api.<wbr/>html.

 

Phase 1 - Opening the Application in LinkedIn

Optional: If you are planning on configuring a domain alias (CNAME), please insert your alias sub domain (CNAME value) instead of 'socialize.gigya.com' and your domain instead of Gigya's domain. i.e. http://[YOUR-ALIAS-SUB-DOMAIN].yoursite.com/GS/SNLink.aspx?snid=9042&c=1 in the "External URL" field, and "yoursite.com" in the "External Callback Validation" field.
Note: please do not use https.
  1. Enter the following link: http://developer.linkedin.com/community/apis
    and log in.
  2. Press the 'Request an API key'.

  3. Click on 'Add New Application'.

  4. Fill in the following fields:
    1. Company name
    2. Application name
    3. Description
    Please note: do not insert the 'Integration URL'.
  5. In the 'Application Type' field choose 'Web Application'.

  6. In the 'Application Use' field choose 'Communications'.
  7. Set the 'Live Status' field to 'Live'.
  8. Optional: choose an interface language and programming tools.
  9. Fill in your contact email in the 'Developer Contact Email' and your phone number in the 'Phone' field.
  10. Paste the following URL in the 'OAuth Redirect URL' field: http://socialize.gigya.com/GS/SNLink.aspx?snid=9042&c=1
  11. In 'Agreement Language' choose 'Browser Local settings'.
  12. Agree to the terms of service and fill in the 'Security Text'.
  13. Click 'Add Application'.
  14. Copy the "API Key" and "Secret Key" (you will need to paste them in Gigya's website, as described in phase 2).

Phase 2 - Configuring LinkedIn's Application Keys in Gigya's Website

  1. Go to the Dashboard section of Gigya's website.
    Note: If you are not signed in to Gigya, please go to http://www.gigya.com/ and sign in.
     
  2. Press the "Site Settings" button that corresponds to the domain you wish to configure. You will be redirected to the "Site Settings" page.

  3. Paste your keys (the "API Key" and the "Secret Key" from the end of phase 1) in the corresponding places:

  4. Click the "Save Settings" button (located at the lower right-hand corner of the page).

 

That's it, LinkedIn is configuration is complete! Please note that it might take up to 10 minutes for our system to become synchronized with LinkedIn.
